The Society was founded 23 March 1968 and was granted
a Charter as a "non-profit organization" by the State of Georgia
on 15 October 1984.
The Society was formed to gather and preserve records of a genealogical
nature, focusing on those of Southwest Georgia, and to assist members to
become better researchers. Meetings are held monthly on the first Saturday
of each month.
The fiscal year of the Society is from January to December. Annual dues
are $15.00 per member or $20.00 for husband and wife. Dues of members
joining from 1st of September to 31st of December will be considered paid
for the following fiscal year.
Each member will receive the GENEALOGICAL GAZETTE every quarter
(Feb, May, Aug, and Nov).
Husband and wife membership would receive only one copy of the Quarterly.
The Gazette normally contains at least 50 pages of genealogical data and
has a surname index.
